The President of Turkish Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ali Erbaş committed homophobic hate speech at the 8th International Religious Services Conference held in Konya.

In the conference opening speech he delivered, Erbaş said, “We see a number of perversions are brought forward by means of certain mottos, such as ‘gender equality’, and a fuss is made over them,” and committed homophobic hate speech, suggesting that “homosexuality is a perversion that is ‘against nature’”.

Also available in his Twitter account, Erbaş’s speech full of hate goes on as follows:

“The conception of a woman refusing to be a mother and a man refusing to be a father is a perversion that is against nature, and this conception has been both rejected and condemned by all belief systems throughout history. They pass their limits and drive it into the ground: women rejecting to be mothers and men rejecting to be fathers go so far as to marry each other, which should be made an issue not only by Muslims but also by the whole humankind. Therefore, every one of us should consider it a duty to educate our children and youth, raise their awareness, and protect them against those perverted understandings.”

Presidency of Religious Affairs produces hate as well

Upon being asked “What is the approach of Islam to LGBTİ+ individuals?”, the E-State application of Presidency of Religious Affairs also committed hate speech, giving the reply that being LGBTİ+ is “not normal and not innate”, “something pathological”, “to exceed the limits”, and “a destroying cardinal sin”.
