AKP deputy Bostancı’s ‘Gay Initiative’

AKP deputy Bostancı has asked the complaints of gays to be evaluated in addition to women and families.

 

According to the report of internethaber.com, Naci Bostancı, an AKP deputy from Amasra and a member of The Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission asked the violence not to be limited with women, to accept the existence of gays and the complaints of gays to be discussed in the Commission.

 

The Parliamentary Human Rights Investigation Commission has hold its first session of the new legislation year. In the session it has been decided to establish three sub-commissions to investigate prisons, violence against women and family members and violation of the right to live in the context of terror and act of violence. 

 

Bostancı, who has taken attention to the background of violence against women and indicated these must have been investigated, asked the question of’ whether it is right to limit the Commission with family or not’ and said ‘There are different realities in life. Different models may occur which do not comply with them in the process of social change. There are spouses with imam marriage. What do we do when violence is used in these marriages and the Commission is applied? There are co-wife incidents. What do we do when they apply to the Commission? There are people who live together for 3-5 years. What do we do when they apply to the Commission? I say this to be provocative, there are gay couples. Do we ignore them or do we put out an approach based on human rights? I think it is more suitable with the social realities to handle the violence in all kinds of partnerships with an approach based on human rights. ‘

 

AKP deputy Prof. Dr. Burhan Kuzu, the president of The Parliamentary Constitution Committee, indicated that gay people also wanted equal rights and came up against the proposal claiming that the society had not been ready yet in the earlier Constitutional negotiations.
