The statements of LGBTI prisoners, saying the building of the LGBTI is going on, led PM Bedia Özgökçe Ertan to take action. Ertan asked Bekir Bozgağ, the minister of justice, about the prisoner.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Van Deputy Bedia Öxgökçe Ertan asked Bekir Bozdağ, The Minister of Justice, about the claims of LGBTI prison. Ertan, making a written question, reminded that it is written in the response by ministry to a transgender who applied for knowledge acquisition, a project about building Closed and Non-Closed Prisons where lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBT) are to be held and the construction is expected to be finished by 2017.

Ertan, who stated that LGBTI organizations underline prisons for LGBTI prisoners will mark both prisoners and their visitors and intensify the discrimination based on sexual orientation, put in the written question that:

It was said this would not happen, but is the construction going on?

Ministry of Justice answered the written question about this subject that CHP Istanbul Deputy Mahmut Tanalı gave due to the reactions of LGBTI organizations by saying that “work and evaluation of a new prison that is for individuals having different sexual orientations are carried out, by means of such factors like the reintegration in the society in terms of execution’s fundamental principles and effective security. There is not fixed decision about it.” This answer relieved both LGBTI prisoners and their relatives and non-governmental organizations working in this field to some extent. However, this subject have been brought up in the meetings non-governmental organizations are having with LGBTI prisoners for the last couple of months; prisoners have been stating they hear from the officers that a new prison for them is going to be built and the construction is going on.”

Ertan, who underlined that public opinion be informed truly, asked Bozdağ that:

*Are the claims that it is planned by your ministry to build a prison special for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) prisoners? If so, why is such a prison needed?

*If there is a planning about LGBTI prison building, how many prisons are planned to be built and where will they be?

*When is LGBTI prison expected to come into service?

*Were the opinions and statements of non-governmental organizations, which work in this field, taken into account while planning the LGBTI prison?

*What kind works do Ministry of Justice carry out for preventing discrimination and violence LGBTI that citizens are condemned in accordance with the practices of ECHR, aside from the prison?
