BİZ Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Studies Association issued a statement regarding the homophobic attack against their members: We are all aware of that, the ones that have been attacked were not just our friends, it was all of us."
"Homophobia kills"
Two members of the BİZ Sexual Orientation and
Gender Identity Studies Association were subjected to homophobic verbal and
physical violence in Antalya on October 13th.
In the statement regarding the homophobic attack
against its members: "Merih and Bilge, our members who got off the bus
because of harassments, still were cut
off and physically abused and threatened by the same people that harassed
them."
The association stated that, after the arrival of
law enforcement officers at the scene of the incident the attackers tried to
legitimize their attack by saying, "They are wearing earrings, don't you
see they are faggots, queers, they hit
on us too", adding that their members will press charges against the
assailants.
The association noted that the homophobic attack targeted not just two members but the entire LGBTI+ community: "We stand with Merih and Bilge, who informed our friends and lawyer in the association after the incident, and we are legal followers of the case. We are all aware of that, the ones that have been attacked were not just our friends, it was all of us. We are against discrimination, homophobia, and violence."
