Kaos GL Bringing Forward the Social Rights

“Symposium Against Discriminations” will be organized by Kaos GL Association in Ankara during the Human Rights Week on 10-16 December.

 

The Symposium will host unionists, human rights defenders and social work experts from Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Belgium.

 

Sessions of the Symposium tackling the fields of health, education, city and labour rights will be held in the Conference Hall of Ankara Bar Association on 15-16 December 2012, Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Symposium will be organized around the topics of LGBT people’s rights struggle and social rights, and “Human Rights, Plurality and Equality - Possibilities of Defending LGBT Rights” will be opened to discussion.

 

Sessions on Social Services will take place on 13 December, Thursday, at Hacettepe University Beytepe Campus and 14 December, Friday at Başkent University.

 

Among social events before the sessions are a stand-up show by Esmeray, football matches with the referee Halil İbrahim Dinçdağ and a freedom of expression concert.

 

The Symposium will host international participants from universities, unions and human rights organizations as well as PMs from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

 

 

Making a call by saying “Let’s advocate together that LGBT rights are basic human rights!”, Kaos GL Association invites you all for the Symposium Against Discriminations:

 

 

“As Kaos GL, since 1994 we have drawn attention to the fact that discrimination and its ideologies feed one another and we have emphasized that a joint struggle is the way to freedom with our motto ‘Liberation of homosexuals will also free heterosexuals.’”

 

 

“We want to strengthen a joint struggle with different groups being discriminated and open a discussion on “hate speech and hate crimes” and “freedoms of opinion, expression and organization”. During the Symposium we will deal with the conservative policies which produce discriminatory practices and inequality with “family values”, “obscenity” and “general morality” through medicalization of sexuality.” 

 

 

“We aim at making visible the heterosexist discriminatory attitudes and practices lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people face in their daily lives and strengthening the human rights struggle and solidarity.“
