The 9th International Anti-Homophobia Meeting is approaching…

We are marching against homophobia and transphobia

Main activities of the 9th International Anti-Homophobia Meeting will take place in Ankara on May 17th and 18th and end with “the March Against Homophobia” on May 18th. All the events will be held at Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, ATAUM Prof. Dr. Necdet Serin Conference Hall and English-Turkish interpretation will be provided.

Political Barriers Before Rights and Freedom
This year’s theme is defined as “the political barriers such as family, reproduced discourses on traditional values, patriarchy, religion, conservatism, nationalism… that prevent LGBTIs from accessing rights and freedom.”

With reference to the fact that this year’s International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia global theme is “freedom of expression,” the political barriers in general, socio-political discursive practices and situations in which these barriers are intertwined with each other in particular will be discussed through the lens of freedom of expression.

The theme of “freedom of expression” will be critically analyzed in terms of the ability of healthy construction of sexual orientation and gender identity, access to information and resources throughout the construction process and the ability to perform identities as political subjects in daily lives.

Let’s Meet in Ankara on May 17th and 18th!
Kaos GL which struggles against homophobia and transphobia calls everybody who believes that LGBTIs and heterosexuals can liberate each other to participate in this year’s Anti-Homophobia Meeting.
