May 11, 2011<br /><br />The problems of LGBT refugees in Turkey will be discussed in a workshop to be held in Ankara tomorrow, 12 May.

Problems faced by LGBT refugees in Turkey will be discussed in the workshop to be held in Ankara on 12th of May within the context of International Meetings against Homophobia with the participation of refugees.

The problems of LGBT refugees in Turkey will be discussed in the workshop to be held in Ankara on 12th of May. The workshop to which LGBT refugees will also attend within the context of International Meetings Against Homophobiais being held by Kaos GL and Amnesty International Turkey Branch.

Within the framework of local steps of International Meetings Against Homophobia, Kaos GL realised the program “LGBT Refugees are Meeting against Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Discrimination” in Kayseri, Isparta, Niğde, Nevşehir and Eskişehir.

Kaos GL, together with Amnesty International Turkey Branch, will carry over the gatherings realised with LGBT refugees in five cities to the agenda of “LGBT Refugees Workshop Against Homophobia” to be held within the context of International Meetings Against Homophobia on 12th of May Thursday.

 

All NGOs Dealing In The Field Of Refugee Rights Are Invited

Towards the aim of bringing forward the problems of LGBT refugees,  the non-governmental organisations that work together with Kaos GL, namely Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (ASAM), Human Resource Development Foundation (HRDF), Positive Living Association (PLA) and Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (HRFT), have been invited.

Members of Refugee Rights Coordination, namely Association of Human Rights and Solidarity for Oppressed People (MAZLUMDER), Human Rights Research Association (HRRA), Helsinki Citizens Assembly (HCA), Human Rights Agenda Association (HRAA), Association of Solidarity with Refugees (MÜLTECİ-DER), Human Rights Association (HRA) and Human Rights Joint Platform (HRJP), have also been  extended invitation to the workshop. 

In the workshop, discussions on the subjects of problems experienced by LGBT refugees, works conducted in this field, and evaluation of the Draft Law on Foreigners and International Asylum in relation to LGBT refugees shall be conducted.

 

LGBT Refugees Will Tell Their Problems Firsthand

Kaos GL Association and Amnesty International Turkey Branch have been conducting studies on the issue of supporting LGBT refugees since a long time ago.

In this workshop to be held within the context of International Meetings Against Homophobia, it is aimed to listen the problems faced by LGBT refugees firsthand from themselves, handle the problems and determine the strategies to be developed on this subject.

It is planned to prepare a report on the deduction of “sexual orientation” expression from the Draft Law on Foreigners and International Asylum and send it to relevant institutions at the end of the workshop.
