SpunOut Hosts Kaos GL For A Youth-led Video Documentary Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+
Members of SpunOut hosted Kaos GL’s representative Nevin Öztop to discuss on the involvement of youth in social changes.

SpunOut hosted Kaos GL’s member Nevin Öztop in its office in Dublin to speak about youth politics and the involvement of youth in social matters.

SpunOut is a youth-led organization with a focus on voting, democracy, drugs and alcohol usage, creative writing, sexual health and cyber bullying. The organization also works on women in media and politics and mental health. The organization targets youth between the ages of 16-25.

Nevin Öztop, present in Dublin for BeLonG To’s youth inclusion conference, was hosted by SpunOut for a video documentary that targets youth active online. The video focused on young people wanting to build momentum around a campaign or protest, importance of online interaction for youth, culture of youth activism in Turkey and young people dealing with or lobbying politicians or policy makers.

Öztop emphazised that Ireland’s parliament seems to have doors that looks to be opened much easier compared to the parliament Turkey. Focusing on the responsibility of parliamentarians to make youth feel comfortable with lobbying, official meetings and visits to the parliament, Öztop encouraged the organisation to keep telling their stories to everyone they meet because “youth have much more impressive stories to tell than the elderly”.

Öztop visited the offices of local LGBT and trans organizations as well such as TENI - Transgender Euality Network Ireland, SAIL (parents of trans people in Ireland) and OutHouse which works as a focal point and a safe space for the activities of LGBT organisations in the country.
