The Kaos GL Association, which celebrates
its age of 25, publishes the activities of its programs that create areas of
work and struggle. Today we will share the working areas of the Human Rights
Program with kaosGL.org readers.
Kaos GL Human Rights Program works in
Turkey and on the international level for the protection, use, and development
of LGBTI+ rights including refugees, in the light of universal human rights principles
and standards, and aims at legal, political and social change.
In line with this mission, it organizes
awareness, advocacy, and capacity building activities on international,
national and local scales and participates in such activities. It produces
publications within the scope of the enrichment of literature on LGBTI+ rights
and brings international sources to Turkish or other languages used in Turkey.
Publishes human rights reports on LGBTI+’s through monitoring and documentation
activities or contributes to such reporting processes.
In line with its capacity building goal, it
organizes activities for LGBTI+'s, human rights defenders, decision makers,
policymakers, professional groups, NGO's and other social parties.
About Human Rights Monitoring and Reporting
Kaos GL monitors the working processes of international human rights mechanisms and provides written and verbal reports to these mechanisms. Kaos GL can prepare these reports on its own or take part in rights-based civil society collaborations. In addition, where the agenda requires it, Kaos GL communicates with international human rights mechanisms and conveys its human rights opinion on the issue.
Besides, in line with the special
monitoring processes it conducts annually, it shares the following human rights
reports with the public and stakeholders on an annual basis:
*Status of LGBTI+ Rights in Turkey
*Homophobia and Transphobia Based Hate
Crimes
*Status of LGBTI+ Employees in Private
Sector
*Status of LGBTI+ Employees in Public Sector
In addition, Kaos GL can produce thematic
reports on specific fields of human rights where it deems necessary.
On Human Rights Education
Kaos GL consolidates its expertise with the contribution of international and national experts and organizes human rights workshops for decision-makers, human rights defenders, NGOs, professional experts, public employees, private sector representatives or other citizens and refugee groups or cooperates with such educational organizations. Kaos GL refers to the conventions, documents and court practices on LGBTI+ rights of structures such as the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, the European Union and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
In doing so, it examines the compliance of
national legislation and policies with regard to Turkey's international
obligations and produces recommendations accordingly.
